cub day camp

Today I got to take Ethan to his last day camp. I'm glad I'm still his leader, so I could hang out with him all day.

They got to shoot rocks from a sling shot and try to hit a bunch of metal things hanging on a string on the other side of the river. I think this might have been one of the favorite things today.
The boys all made swords out of PVC pipe and swim noodles, then fought another pack.

One of the games included leaping around on these rocking circles, and then using these sticks to try to push each other off.
Ethan really liked shooting the BB guns. I think most boys love this station.

Ethan and his amazing den leader! (Ethan is too busy sucking on one of those candy baby bottles, which gave him the fancy blue teeth below...)

And you can't forget Archery. I guess it's essential for every young boy to learn to shoot a bow and arrow.

We had 30 boys there, and 6 leaders, and we didn't lose anyone (at least, not for very long), and nobody got hurt (if you don't count one of the boys hitting another boy in the head with a wooden mallet). The weather was fabulous, and we missed the crazy hurricane winds/rain by about 30 minutes. It was a great day!

no future for you!

Last night Chris was being silly with Josh, and picked him up and said, "Let me look into your future."
Josh said, "I don't have a future."
Ashley was listening, and said, "Everyone has a future!"
Josh shook his head slowly, and said in all seriousness, "Not me."
Poor Josh...

riding bikes

Ashley watched this video about how to ride a bike without pedals, and decided to teach herself. We didn't take the pedals off, but she'd walk herself up and down our driveway, until she learned how to glide, then pedal. It took a few hours, but now she's a pro :)

the cast is off, and Ethan's arm will be back to normal soon. Once he learns how to bend his elbow again :)

scouts and BYU book fairs

Part of our scout group playing a game at pack night

Ethan earning his Bear

Pinning the Bear on Mom.

Think I can read this giant stack of books at the BYU MOA?

Josh was excited to meet Clifford
We went to the BYU Book fair today. It was free and so much fun! The kids got to meet lots of famous people, win a few books and prizes, and eat some candy.
Josh was especially excited to meet Darth Vader.

Ashley was thrilled to meet Madeline!

Scooby was disappointed we didn't bring any Scooby snacks.

Ashley got a flower, Josh got a sword (which popped about two minutes later), and Ethan got a squirrel (which looked more like a dog with a long tail--and his also popped about ten minutes later).

First JDawg experience for Ashley, but Ethan's a hot dog veteran

Josh said he wouldn't eat the hot dog, but gave it 2 thumbs up.

saving some sauce for later...

Chris's favorite place to eat.

catch up...

Ethan, showing off his camouflage cast on the last day of school

Hanging out across the street at the Last Day of School picnic

Ashley and her friends Sadie, Ella, and Avery enjoying the last day of school together.

Josh and some neighbor boys driving like crazy (literally).

View of the mountains from our front porch.

Like I said in the last post, we're really going to miss looking out at these mountains every day. I'm sure we'll enjoy looking out at the palm trees in Florida, but hopefully we'll be back to see this view again someday.

Last night I got to see some friends from high school for an engagement party. Too bad the rest of the "herd" couldn't be there...
